This piece is one of a series examining mania through abstract expressionism. Here, the elevated mood that I can experience during a bipolar manic episode is symbolised by bright swirling central colours and bold texture. Around the edges of the painting, the darker shades represent the depression that threatens to encroach even when I might feel incredible. More broadly, this piece is about the cycles of life.
